Cat 6 cables are designed for operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. They are used for signal transmission at high data rates (1 Gbps). Due to the high signal frequencies, special care must be taken during installation and assembly, particularly at the connection points of the wires. The individual wire pairs in Cat 6 cables are twisted at different tightness levels, which further reduces susceptibility to interference compared to Cat 5e. Applications for Cat 6 cables include voice and data transmission as well as multimedia and ATM networks. Even more powerful are cables according to Cat 6e (500 MHz) and Cat 6a (625 MHz).
