- The QNAP system scores with a very good value for money. For just over 200 euros, you get a fully-fledged NAS server, which then needs to be expanded with the desired hard drives.
- The range of programmes that are not used to manage the NAS or the images could be more extensive. However, an indirect solution is possible via Microsoft Office for the web using a browser.
For home use, the QNAP is a real recommendation due to its easy-to-use software and simple installation. The TS-233 version with two hard drive bays instead of the TS-133 is recommended in order to achieve a high level of data security.
Regular PC backups, growing photo, video and music collections - such data treasures need space. Many people outsource them to cloud storage services. Others prefer to back them up on an external hard drive. The advantages of both solutions are combined in a dedicated network storage device for the home (often called NAS, for "network-attached storage")...
- Snapshots (volume-based)
- AI-based image management
- Good power management
- HEIC format only at extra cost
- Very long boot time
The TS-233 from Qnap comes with comprehensive functionality, exemplary documentation, snapshot functionality and even AI-based image management.

- High data security through RAID 0 mirroring
- Encryption
- No complex network integration
- Available in huge capacities
- Can be used as a USB hub
- Loud on the desktop right through 2x 3.5" hard drives

- Compact tower design
- AI-controlled image recognition
- Snapshot function
- Clever airflow management
- Slow to boot
- No real off switch
- Very wide range of functions
- Slow for small and medium files
The TS-233 is particularly small and therefore also finds space in smaller corners. In terms of functions, there are few differences to the more expensive sister model TS-264 - unfortunately this also includes the very long set-up time. Typical for a rather inexpensive NAS: the slower speed when transferring small files.
