11 hand coffee grinders in the test
Hand mills mean one thing above all: a fair amount of manual labour, which - depending on the grind setting and the quality of the grinder - can be sometimes more and sometimes less tedious. But the muscular work is rewarded: with each turning movement, the beans contained in the grinder break further apart and - little by little - turn into an ideally perfectly uniform powder. With solid grinders made of stainless steel or ceramic, modern hand mills are in no way inferior to their electric counterparts: With them, the grinding process as such does take a moment or two longer. But this time is well invested, because: During the manual grinding process, the beans do not heat up to any significant degree. This, in turn, means that the original aroma spectrum they contain is fully preserved and is not lost due to high temperatures. We have tested 11 current hand grinders.
