Product details

The Mercedes-Benz W 198, also known as the Mercedes-Benz Type 300 SL, was produced by Daimler-Benz AG from 1954 to 1963. The coupe model, which featured gullwing doors, was sold from 1954 to 1957. In 1954, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300 SL as a novelty at the International Motor Sports Show in New York. The 300 SL earned the title of "fastest sports car of its time." The number 300 refers to the engine size measured in centiliters, and the abbreviation SL stands for "Super Light." The W 198 was inspired by the W 194, which was known from motorsport and already carried the SL abbreviation in its name.
