A very beautiful children's story. Lovingly drawn. You always discover something new.
I don't understand the hype surrounding this book. It is labelled as "one of the most beautiful bedtime books for the little ones".
In the story, the gorilla releases the animals locked up in small and gloomy cages and they then lie down to rest in the night watchman's bedroom. However, the night watchman's wife immediately realises that something is wrong and takes the animals back to the zoo. Only the gorilla finally manages to spend the night with the night watchman and his wife.
The only learning effect I see is that the child realises that the animals are kept in small, dreary cages solely for the amusement of humans. They seem sad and bored and the animals are not kept in a way that is appropriate to their species.
I recognise a weak "educational" sense, as the gorilla frees the animals. But because they have to go back to the zoo at the end, this ray of hope is superfluous. The only beneficiary is the gorilla, who has gained his freedom by stealing the keys.
The book is thought-provoking. What values and views are conveyed? I don't see any educational value.
The pictures look gloomy and old-fashioned.
