In Putin's Russia
German, Ulrike Zemme, Hannelore Umbreit, Anna Politkovskaya, 2022Product details
'In Putin's Russia', first published in German in 2005, describes the first years of Vladimir Putin's reign, during which he established the Russian reality of today, the "Putin system". The Moscow journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who died in an assassination attempt on 7 October 2006, impressively shows that an authoritarian and inhuman policy characterised Putin's Russia from the very beginning. Her book offers a deep understanding of Putin the person and of Russia today. Her analyses have lost none of their topicality, which may come as a surprise, particularly in Germany, where, especially under Gerhard Schröder's chancellorship, people continued to follow the political course stemming from the policy of détente. This new edition is introduced by a foreword by Anke Hilbrenner, Professor of Eastern European History. She explains the reportages, which cover the years 2000 to 2003, against the background of today's political situation.
