Product details
The origins of Caran d'Ache date back over 100 years. The success story began in 1915 with the founding of the Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons. In 1924, it was sold to Arnold Schweitzer, who named it Caran d'Ache, inspired by the French artist Emmanuel Poiré. From its inception to the present day, the company has launched numerous innovations: for instance, in 1929, the Fixpencil, the world's first mechanical pencil with a clamping mechanism; the well-known Neocolor pastels, which have been produced since 1952; and the 849 ballpoint pen, which hit the market in 1969 and became an unmistakable classic with its hexagonal shape. However, one thing has never changed throughout its long, storied history: production is exclusively in Switzerland, initially in the city of Geneva and since 1974 in Thônex, a suburb of Geneva. Environmentally friendly manufacturing processes are one of the company's core values. Today, the range includes pencils, colored pencils, Neocolor pencils, ballpoint pens, fountain pens, and other products related to writing and painting.
