I have a MacMini 2014 with Thunderbolt 2 port and would like to use the ext. SSD from SanDisk with the USB-C port - which adapter cable is recommended for this?

I don't think there is such an adapter (USB-C to Thunderbolt 2). However, your MacMini certainly has a USB-3 port. You can connect the SSD there with the corresponding adapter. I do this with my iMac. According to the description, such an adapter is included. At least that's how it was with me.

Remove the USB/USB-C adapter and then you have a USB-C connection.
