I am using a MacBook Pro M1 with macOS Big Sur and the Portable SSD Software 1.0 for Mac (The macOS Big Sur user's only) 1.7.3. I can see the hard disk in the Finder but cannot encrypt it via the Samsung application 1.7.3. The following message appears: "There is no Samsung Portable SSD storage device connected". I have downloaded the latest programme from the Samsung site several times and checked for updates but it does not work! What can I do to make the programme recognise the hard disk?

Hello, I had the same problem. Here is the solution I found on the Samsung Community page:

My System: MacBook Pro Big Sur (M1) 11.6
Now how it worked for me:
-Do not use the software that is on the SSD.
-Remove completely if installed
-Disconnect the SSD from the computer
-Follow this guide to allow software extensions https://s3.ap-northeast-2.amazonaws.com/global.sem......
-Reboot, then from this page https://www.samsung.com/semiconduc...
Download version 1.7.3 (version 1.7.2 from the German site did not work for me)
-Open System Settings->Security Data Protection and leave it open.
-Install the software DO NOT restart immediately
-Now you should get the message in System Settings->Privacy that you should allow Samsung to install the extension.
-Click on Lock->Password->Click on Allow Do not restart but click on later.
-Click on Restart in the Samsung software
-Wait for reboot
-Start software after boot->No SSD found
-Connect the SSD and voilà, the SSD is recognised and you can start setting it up.
