Hello Digitec team. I own the Sony A7III including the USB cable. However, when I connect the camera to my laptop, I cannot connect to PlayMemoriesOnline or the camera is not recognised. I would like to use this to be able to install updates and apps. Now my question: is it possible that this is due to the cable? If so, can you recommend a USB-C to USB-C cable from your range that is suitable for this? Thanks for your help. LG

Helpful answer

Not from Digitec either, but I can confirm that the A7 III no longer supports apps on the camera itself. They have also renamed the new software versions "Imaging Edge"; if this is also used by you for other than updates, an update of the software itself would probably be recommended.

The firmware updates, on the other hand, are installed via stand-alone firmware update software, which can be downloaded from the Sony support website for the model name ILCE-7M3 for Mac or Windows. As far as I know, this can be done either via the Micro-B or USB-C port. So far I have done it with a normal USB-A->USB-C cable. The rest has already been explained by NoApple.

Hello
I am not from the Digitec team but I can still answer the questions. With the Alpha cameras that came onto the market after the Alpha 6500, it is no longer possible to install apps. The A7III is one of them. The same applies to the RIII, the 9, the Alpha 6100, 6400, 6600 and the 9II as well as the RIV.
A micro USB cable was included in the scope of delivery. With it, the firmware update works without any problems. The USB connection must be set to "Mass storage" in the camera menu.
