Mid 2012 - early 2013 uses SATA.
Mid 2013+ uses PCIe.
For the models from mid 2013 onwards, however, there are other manufacturers (e.g. OWC).
In addition, it is always stated exactly with which models the respective version is compatible (be sure to check this).
