Well. USB 2.0 is a very much at the limit. Not only because of the speed of 40MB/s, but also because of the maximum current output of 2.5W (500mA x 5VDC = 2.5W).
When writing, the SSD needs 2.61W. This would theoretically go beyond the limit.
With a USB 3.0 port, it would not only be faster but also better powered (900mA x 5VDC = 4.5W).

the hard disk has a SATA-3 interface and this adapter has a SATA-2 connection. The difference between SATA-3 and 2 is the data transfer speed.
SATA-3: 6Gb/s
SATA-2: 3Gb/s

However, this is not a problem because SATA-3 is downward compatible. The transfer speed is simply limited to 3Gb/s :)
