According to the description, the unit has a 1 GB hard disk (!) built in. That somehow doesn't make any sense. Even a very cheap DVD has almost five times as much memory. Is this information correct? Or what does it mean in concrete terms?

The 1GB refers to the player's internal memory. This is reserved for the operating system, copied photos and the resumption of paused films. No recordings are possible with the UB824. Please do not confuse the device with an HDD recorder.
This confusing "1GB" has since been removed from the title and specification.
The one gigabyte of memory is consistent with information from other sites. I think the hard disk stores the apps that you can download on this model, for example, as well as the associated data. However, I couldn't find any exact information about this on the manufacturer's website:
