The special construction of the housing interior offers plenty of space for the installation of a wide variety of components, including unobtrusive cabling. The power supply unit and up to three 3.5-inch hard disks can be mounted decoupled behind a panel on the underside of the case. The mainboard and the other components can also be wired discretely. In addition to the useful installation opening for CPU coolers, there are numerous openings for all required cables in the mainboard area. For water cooling, the Tower offers the option of using a 280 mm radiator with an overall height of up to 5.7 cm including fan in the front of the housing. Tower coolers can be installed up to a height of 17.5 cm. The maximum length of the usable graphic cards is 38 cm, power supply units can be used up to a length of 23 cm. Pre-installed dust filters protect the installed hardware from contamination. They can be easily removed and reinstalled for cleaning. In addition, a dust filter is pre-installed on the upper side, which can also be easily removed thanks to magnetic fastening.

- Den günstigsten Preis im Testumfeld erreicht die Lösung von Western Digital durch Abstriche in der Hardware. So ist der Prozessor nur mit zwei Rechenkernen ausgerüstet und auch der Arbeitsspeicher beträgt nur ein Gigabyte.
- Die Leistung reicht zwar für den Heimgebrauch aus, liegt aber unter der von beiden Konkurrenten. Die Lautstärke im Festplattenbetrieb ist recht hoch.
Für den WD EX2 Ultra spricht sein günstiger Preis, denn ohne Festplatten kostet das Gerät nur knapp 170 Euro. Wer eine reine RAID-1-Speicherlösung mit Werkzeugen für die Datenverwaltung und das Backup auf weiteren Speichersystemen sucht, ist sehr gut mit ihm bedient.
Regelmäßige PC-Backups, wachsende Foto-, Video- und Musik-Sammlungen – solche Datenschätze brauchen Platz. Viele lagern sie an Cloud-Speicherdienste aus. Andere sichern sie lieber auf einer externen Festplatte. Vorteile beider Lösungen vereint ein eigener Netzwerkspeicher für zuhause (oft auch NAS genannt, für „Network-attached storage“)...

Die Nettodatenrate mit bis zu 103 MByte/s beim Lesen geht in Ordnung, ebenso die Leistungsaufnahme, die man bei etwa elf Watt im Leerlauf und gut fünf Watt im Energiesparmodus durchaus als sparsam bezeichnen kann. Dafür gibt es allerdings auch nur eine Handvoll Apps, die schlecht oder gar nicht erklärt werden...
Das WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS ist ein sinnvolles Update des bekannten EX2 Servers. Der weitere Rechenkern und die Verdoppelung des Arbeitsspeichers sorgen insgesamt für eine hohe Reaktionsfreudigkeit der Weboberfläche auch unter hoher Last. Zusätzlich profitieren verschlüsselte RAID-Verbunde vor allem bei Schreibzugriffen von dem Plus an Rechenpower...
Einfach mal eine NAS kaufen? Keine gute Idee!
