- Network storage
- Quiet
- Power-saving
- Encryption
- All common NAS functions available
- Only one drive bay
- Simple set up
- Very large range of functions
- Slow when copying smaller files
The DS220j uses the same operating system as the test winner - the range of functions is practically the same. Synology has mainly made savings in the equipment: there is only one network socket. In addition, replacing the hard drive is more cumbersome. The speed drops noticeably with smaller files.

With the DS220j, Synology offers a NAS server in a reduced configuration. This is noticeable for audio use by the absence of the one-touch USB backup, but also of Roon and other special audio servers. The strengths lie in the quiet operation and the price.

If you can do without the Linux file system Btrts, the DS218j is a fast, functional and particularly energy-saving multimedia NAS for the home network - including comprehensive image management.

- Quiet in operation + Comprehensive firmware
- Inexpensive to purchase
- Slab mounting and changing somewhat cumbersome
With the DS220j NAS model, Synology fulfils what is promised to the user: A solid two-bay NAS for home use. There are no gimmicks, but the design is well thought out. The NAS empty enclosure is decently fast in data transfer, works quietly and is very inexpensive - ideal for entry-level use and a combination that helps the model to its current price-performance victory.
