Product details
The new SEL50F14GM full-frame lens: A new G Master standard fixed focal length lens with a constant F1.4 aperture offers optimised image quality and excellent operability specifically for full-frame stills and video. The advanced optical design incorporates an ED (Extra Low Dispersion Aspherical) element, two XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements and an aspherical element, ensuring outstanding resolution in this Sony camera lens. A beautiful background blur effect (bokeh) is achieved thanks to an 11-blade circular aperture. Two complex XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors enable faster and more accurate focusing when shooting video and stills. The SEL50F14GM, a video-ready E-mount lens from Sony, offers smooth, fast and continuous autofocus performance when shooting video and features minimised breath compensation for better image quality.

The new Sony FE 1.4/50 mm GM has a higher contrast than the Zeiss Planar T FE 1.4/50 mm ZA. This is most evident at open aperture and there also with the edge fall-off. The Sony GM weighs only 516 grams instead of 778 grams like the Zeiss optics and is one centimetre shorter. So the Zeiss Planar remains a very good lens, but has to give way to the new, even better Sony GM in terms of image quality...

- Best resolution values, flawless representation without chromatic aberrations and the like as well as the very good workmanship speak for the lens.
- While the new Sony lens is more compact and lighter than its predecessors, it remains massive. The price for the new introduction is high.
Sony sets the standard in resolution and image reproduction with the new 50-millimetre fixed focal length. The linear motor-based autofocus system fully exploits the extensive capabilities of Sony's advanced full-frame E cameras.

- High resolution
- Fast and precise autofocus
- Light and compact
- High price
If you combine the haptic impression, the experiences in the practical test and the results of the laboratory test, you come to the conclusion that Sony has succeeded in a sensible further development with the 50mm F1.4 GM. In the practical test, it was not only the resolution quality and the speed of the autofocus that caught our eye, but also the compactness of the lens...
