Sony's first 16-55mm (equivalent to 24-82.5mm full-frame) APS-C zoom lens with a constant F2.8 aperture is very compact and delivers performance that does justice to the G Series. A new optical design allows high resolution from the center of the image to the edge and beautiful bokeh effects. It is compact, lightweight and versatile.
Two AA and two aspherical elements correct for deviations for high resolution from center to edge. Three ED glass elements minimize color bleeding. Sony's AR nanocoating offers high resistance to ghosting and light effects for sharp contrast. Precise control of spherical aberrations and a circular aperture with nine lamellas create a gentle bokeh.
Due to the optimized mechanical and optical design, the weight of the compact 16-55 mm zoom lens (equivalent to 24-82.5 mm full format) with constant F2.8 aperture is only 494 grams. Together with a compact E-Mount housing, this lens forms a mobile, handy system for a wide range of applications - from portraits to daily snapshots.
This APS-C lens uses the same type of XD linear motor that maximizes focus performance in the G Master Series. The XD linear motor exploits the potential of the camera body to focus and track even fast-moving subjects with impressive speed and precision. The silent operation allows filmmakers to use the constant F2.8 aperture.
