Do not buy in any case
The disk is shortlisted because it comes with backup software. But what was not said is that this software sends user data to WD. It is asked twice if you really do not want to send data and if you then refuse to send it is announced big user data will be shared. BÄM! This is not possible!
What concerns the plate:
Volume: From 8 m in a quiet room still audible
Vibration: strong, increases the volume on a table noticeably.
REMARKABLE: plate Makes whistling noises when you move it during operation or even carefully lay it at 90°. Heads on the plates? I am aware that special care is required for running disks, but something like this is not possible for an external hard drive.

Cost optimised storage
WD My Book is not too loud for an HDD.
In the TB/CHF calculation, the WD My Book disks do very well at Digitec. However, the size at which the TB is cheapest is constantly changing.
I use it as a long-term backup for film data. I now use over 40 TB and am very satisfied.Pro

We have a total of over 20 WD Mybook hard drives in use for field research abroad.
The oldest is now 9 years old. Some of the plates work in camps in the rainforest and are often transported. The power supply in the camps is unstable, the humidity is high, the wooden floor vibrates a lot when you walk around, but the WD hard drives can cope with it all without a problem: so far, no hard drive has failed.

I wanted 8 TB; and the goal has been reached. The thing has now been formatted and partitioned on Mac.

WD My Book 12 TB
I am a video producer and have been working with WD hard drives for over 15 years. I have now reached 99 hard drives. I've never had a problem, except when I knocked a hard drive off the table while it was working. Unfortunately, it didn't survive.

For the current price (219.-) a very clear buy recommendation.
Super backup disk that also looks good. In combination with Acronis True Image 2017, this is a wonderful backup solution that works reliably and is extremely fast.

Don't hesitate to buy this device if you want to store a lot of data for little money.
Very efficient storage device, with a few minor flaws.
Plus (+) :
- Sleek design, half glossy half matt, modern and appreciable.
- Large storage capacity (purchased in 8TB).
- Easy to connect.
- Useful and functional built-in accessories/programs with a quick learning curve.
Minus (-):
- No ability to turn it off by leaving the cable connected to the device.

The marketing is top the customer service a flopp!
Product meets my expectations. Unfortunately, after a week, the power supply has gone out. This can happen. When I contacted Digitec (call and internet) more than a week passed until I received a response. Since I had already played data on the hard disk, I wanted to simply replace the defective power supply. This was not possible according to Digitec. Should someone explain to me how to delete data on a hard disk without power supply! Via WD USA I received a new power supply in less than a week. The customer service of Digitec is in this case under any sow and I will avoid this company in the future whenever possible!

Annoys with a noise
Annoys with a disk access noise every 20-30 seconds. Only plugging in is enough. Nothing on it, no access; only mounted. Turning is also well audible. No disc for on the office desk
Fortunately it falls asleep relatively quickly

Don't work with old Mac operating systems
It's with disappointment that I discovered that this HD only works with more recent MAC operating systems.

MyBook 14TB: works; gets quite warm and knocks.
The HD has been working for 100hrs, but:
That it is not a quiet hard drive I knew before buying after research; noise level during read/write access acceptable to me; however, a slight knocking every 2-8sec is strangely present even in standby mode; probably comes from the read/write head; several meters audible and even on the office table slightly palpable; HD was lousily packaged; therefore returned because suspected defect; compliments: fast replacement delivery within 4 days > same symptom with the replacement device; seems to be design-related; so that it becomes bearable, I have now placed it "floating" to decouple it on a manufactured small aluminum plate, foam rubber underneath.
The second peculiarity: the hottest hard disk I've had, temperature-wise o:), according to CrystalDiskInfo 52degrees during read/write access (internal temperature after approx. 10min); all around perfect air circulation at 25degrees room temp.; outer case doesn't get soo warm;
The two peculiarities make me wonder about reliability and longevity, therefore only 3*; may be unfounded.
My internal HD from HGST 14TB does not knock; becomes only max. 42degrees; was 120.- more expensive; subjectively leaves a higher quality and more trustworthy impression!

There are better for a similar price. The manufacturer said that this is not normal. Unfortunately, but probably with the junk that Digitec gets for sale.
unfortunately not so great. as already mentioned. Who stands on annoying humming noises ... or who is completely deaf - for the probably okay. For all others rather not.

Perfect as a backup
I now have this disk on my NAS to make 2 backups a week. Everything works perfectly.

Drawn through...
The product leaves a mixed impression. It is cheap, relatively compact and offers solid performance. But the 8TB model is noisy. It constantly makes annoying noises, even when the drive is not in active use. The 8TB model is significantly louder than other hard drives.

good but susceptible
The external hard drive gave me a lot of pleasure for two weeks. Until it flew off my 30cm high PC tower due to a small mishap and is now defective.

Good, cheap, a little loud
If it is used as a backup and is not constantly attached, it is a great product.
