14 TB
WD Elements Desktop
14 TB
Preliminary: I have insg. 3 x 5Bay Sharkoon Raidstation with 10TBs
in #1 run 5x real WD RED 10TB
in #2 running 5x WhiteLabeled WD RED 10TB (from WD Elements bought in Jan 2020)
in #3 now running 5x 10TBs that have a completely different HDD case (regular old case) and are definitely not helium filled (remind me visually of old Hitachi's)
See pictures for comparison:
Picture 1 the "good" Helium White-Label (even the FW is identical to the normal RED NAS !).
Picture 2 the new air filled new HDD
The first batches with the White-Label RED therefore also had Helium filling,
which is why they were very quiet and economical.
With the new/current delivery batches there are only cheaper air-filled versions
of the type: WD101EMAZ which
1) are much louder (so no NAS and suitable for living room!).
You can completely tick off with them ! These are real noisemakers (Schleiffhex)
2) consume much more power ! (See power consumption data on the labels)
Therefore the new version falls now times COMPLETELY out of the purchase raster with me
Because even in the original "Elements" case on the table, one alone is already annoyingly loud enough. No thanks !
After the Diskinfos of my Sharkoon 5Bay -Raidstations:
WD100EFAX-68LHPN0 (FW 83.H0A83) (Original WD RED NAS 10TB, single bulk).
WD100EMAZ-00WJTA0 (FW 83.H0A83) (Old WD Desktop Elements 10TB White Label REDs )
WD101EMAZ-11G7DA0 (FW 81.00A81) (New WD Desktop Elements 10TB) ...current batches !
Actually 5 stars (until WD have decided to install the new "cheapheimer noisemakers" here!
That gives me then equal times 2 points REDUCED !
So from my side also NO direct BUY RECOMMENDATION MORE !

Very good hard drive, own several 4T and 3T. Need them as storage for backup (Acronis), am very satisfied.
When using 2 identical types, only 1 is recognized by Windows by default. Remedy: In Disk Management, set the unrecognized (offline) disk to "Online" with a right mouse click at Offline. Access Disk Management:
Start/Computer/(right mouse click)Administration/Disk Management
Clear purchase recommendation

It has been running on a Synology DS713+ as an external backup drive for 2 months without any problems and the sleep mode also works. Works relatively quietly (especially compared to the Seagate Expansion), although with slight vibrations. Gets warm to the touch.

I bought this particular model as I already have a 3T version of it in My Mac.... the only difference is the way that it's formatted and for some odd reason, the Mac version costs quite a bit more.
As far as quality, it's fast, it's easy and it seems to work flawlessly. My overall experience with Western Digital external disks has been very positive. I've never had one fail, I can't say that for other companies.
Will I buy another of the same? Most likely, especially if I can get it for a sale price like I did this one.

Just plug it in and it works. It is quiet and fast according to the standard.

Used as a backup solution at the beginning, now integrated as an NTFS disk as a NAS in the home network and runs like clockwork.

The 10GB already reaches 57 to 60 degrees in this plastic crate during low use. In addition, the part vibrates at times, which is due to the cheap workmanship.
I have now taken the HDD out of the case and, lo and behold, the operating temperature is almost 20 degrees lower.
This case is really a bummer, WD should come up with something better....

No software is supplied / is no longer available. Nevertheless, an unnecessary power switch on the back. However, power switch is not for turning off the hard drive but was for the former software. This switch on the back may not be used, but no reference to it in the manual.
When I want to move larger data to the hard drive, it sometimes crashes (window closes). You have to copy the contents of larger folders over one at a time.

Old-fashioned, reliable part with external power supply. Just my thing for my five-year-old MacBook.

The hard drive is great. Quiet, reasonably fast when writing and reading. The only disadvantage I have with all external WD 4TB hard drives is that when 2 are connected to a computer, only one can be used, which means you can't copy data from one 4TB to another 4TB from WD. A 4TB from Toshiba, on the other hand, I could use at the same time, but it died before the data was on it.

Formatted for Mac OS and used as TimeMachine backup with no problems. 2 weeks in everything working fine.
However, the drive is NOT completely silent as some others have stated. It is not loud, but in a quiet office I definitely hear it running when the disk is spun up. It doesn't disturb me, but I know it's there. When the disk is idle and spins down, it is super-quiet.
The plastic housing is also on the cheap side. I had a 1T MyBook for quite some time, and the aluminium case was of much better quality. This one definitely doesn't have the same feel.
Overall I'd still recommend it though. Just know what you are getting.

cobbled-together power connection for Switzerland with a poor quality mains adapter which works every other time and which, if it doesn't work, can damage the hard drive. In addition, digitec cannot exchange just this part, so we can't work if we have to send the whole item back. What's more, the change would be made with a similar DIY part...

To copy 3TB between 2 WD Elements 10TB hard drives, it takes 2 days. It's time for the PC world to switch to Thunderbolt 2 or 3 which is up to 4 times faster.

A great choice of products and delivery within a reasonable time, but the two hard drives I ordered arrived in a box that was too big and had no padding, which I find inconceivable...

The hard disk or disc (18 TB) did not move after 3 months and could no longer be recognised by the PC.
I returned it and received a new HDD a few days later. All free of charge.
I hope this HDD runs without errors this time.
4 stars for the Elements, 5 stars for the return team.

My negative reviews are more wishful thinking. I am very happy to archive my files inexpensively with this external hard drive.

Supplied with inappropriate plug from England? A suitable adapter is supplied. The mounted plug was a bit difficult to remove. But now everything runs to the best satisfaction.

I am largely satisfied with this product. Somewhat annoying are the vibrations caused by the HDD, which the case does not seem to dampen. The vibrations transfer one-to-one to the desk. You can help yourself with a cork or rubber mat, but that shouldn't be the point.
I can still recommend the product to a limited extent.

It's a hard drive. You can probably afford it. It has warranty. It's not e-waste straight out of the box. Great success™

Unfortunately, in the product specification nor in the documentation for the set-up any indication is missing that the installation for iMac is NOT supported. In the search for solutions in all possible forums, you will then find. The WD Elements 10TB device has to be configured first, then it works. The WD online help is also not exactly a help.
Once in operation, the WD Elements 10TB runs silently and flawlessly.

Simple and easy - weight-wise as well as to put into operation. Have even ordered me a second. If this is delivered by a third party, eg Jakob DE, the shipping status may be on delivered, means to Digitec Galaxus Hub in DE. Only after the import follows a Digitec email with the tracking of the Swiss Post.
