Solid craftsmanship, the base is not made of plastic, but of solid metal. This makes the monitor anything but lightweight, but this benefits the expected longevity, as does the solid mechanism (height adjustment on ball bearings).
The power-on LED is barely perceptible, remains very discreetly in the background and does not disturb with a bright glow. This means that there is no longer even an option to switch it off.
Being able to mount and dismount the entire base with a single click, without any screws, is what I call maintenance-friendly. Side aspect: VESA-compliant mounting, which became a criterion for me after having experienced 6 completely broken joints with proprietary Samsung monitor feet.
Pleasant-looking design on the desk, with its very narrow edge on 3 sides and the slim base with well thought-out cable routing, even if some industrial designers might think twice about the diamond-shaped base plate.
On a positive note: the all-round, filigree ventilation slots for heat dissipation, which shouldn't even be very high with a power consumption of only 15W. A previous LG 27'' had a completely sealed housing with twice the power consumption, which has since rendered it unusable due to a noticeably warm right side and the resulting clearly visible cloud formation in the display.
The innovative operation using a small joystick on the back and the menu navigation are quickly grasped intuitively. Control elements on the underside, on the other hand, can get in the way if you want to place a soundbar underneath (without height adjustment).
Tip: Instead of Dell's own soundbar, which is recommended for this monitor model, consider the slightly more expensive Creative STAGE AIR V2. It fits in well and surprises with rich film sound, concise bass, high-resolution mids and crystal-clear highs, with very intelligible speech (film dialogue, audio/video conferencing).
The display itself is of high quality in terms of brightness, colour fidelity and eye-friendliness. The factory-set 75% brightness and contrast can be adjusted downwards with confidence even in brighter surroundings (reduces the already low power consumption and is easy on the eyes).
Only 2 small flaws:
- Thicker HDMI plugs collide with the edge of the housing cut-out, which means that they are not fully plugged in without being noticed. A little tedious to thread them in.
- A small spirit level is missing from the scope of delivery ;-) However, it would be better to have a noticeable centre lock in the horizontal position if the display had previously been rotated (pivoted).
Last but not least: packaging made entirely of cardboard, without polystyrene.
Conclusion: Top product from Dell for office and other environments, which has earned its position in digitec's top sales ranks.
