... the CP1000 didn't have the same problem as several other Canon Selphy models. The gear on the drive motor also came loose on me and that after only 10 prints. Diagnosis and solution see below or picture.
The print quality including the automatic image enhancement is very good and sufficient for the purpose for which you need a mobile photo printer.
Printer plus thermal transfer foil cassettes plus printer paper are of course not the cheapest solution for digital photo printing, but if you need a printout worth the name in a hurry, the Selphy is a fine thing.
The slipping gear is a Selphy perennial problem. On the CP1000, it can't slip off completely because there's a metal plate in the way, but the force of the motor is not transmitted correctly. The printer then permanently reports that there is "no ink" left.
The solution is simple. Put a drop of cyanoacrylate glue on the motor shaft and push the gear back onto the shaft as far as it will go.
Disassembly and reassembly are a bit nerve-wracking because the components don't fit together without pulling or pushing parts of the housing apart.
Attention, Canon does not offer any PC software under Windows10 for this Selphy Printer (Selphy Photo Print)! After having missed to provide a Win10 driver for the predecessor models, at least the simple photo printing via the Windows image viewer can be used again. The really interesting features (layout printing, labels, decorations, etc.) are only available via SD card directly on the printer with dwarf display. Really tedious, unusable for non gadget-savvy people.

I am disappointed with Canon because Mac support is still poor. Even the previous generation of Selphy printers was touted as Mac compatible, but even then the support was poor. The current driver only runs up to macOS Sierra. Even soon 3 months after the update to High Sierra there is still no update in sight... It's a shame, the Selphy printers are cool devices with good to very good photo quality.

My father bought for his wife. And of course once again a Canon product where the manufacturer does not find it necessary 3 years after product launch to provide drivers for current OS. This is not the first time (has also happened to me with an expensive transmitted light scanner from Canon!!).

Canon does not update the drivers. Printer therefore completely unusable
Contra
Actually, this wouldn't be a bad printer if it weren't for Canon's lousy support.
macOS 12.x simply refuses to install the latest drivers.
The only remedy for printing on macOS Monterey is to install the old Gutenberg driver for macOS:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
This is also very old, but at least it works for printing.
Contra
Attention to all Mac users: This printer no longer has the latest driver software and can therefore no longer be printed with newer macOS. macOS 10.15 (Catalina) is the last macOS which is supported!

with sparse use, the handling needs some intervention. Even without any change of cassette and ribbon, the message 'Wrong paper size' always appears a few times. After a long time of removing and reinserting the paper cassette, I finally get a printout

Great photo printer for home and on the road! He makes high quality photos but takes some time. Consumables relatively expensive.
It should be clear with you as well as the manufacturer that the printer can not be used via Wi-Fi. That is why I had to return the product and have received 10% less of the total amount back.
Print from smartphone feature missing, otherwise very good product

All good so far. Hope the gear doesn't break off again! That's why we bought a new one, the old one was already top. Perfect for vacation printing and photo give away.

All in all, a super device. Inserting the components of the Canon Selphy CP1000 is very easy and using it is relatively simple. The pictures can be fed in via different ways, such as a USB stick, and edited a little. At this point, I would like to briefly emphasise that pictures that are too large in terms of format are only shown with a question mark on the preview display. However, these photos would still be displayed correctly on the paper after printing. With the rotation or smaller editing of the image on the preview display, the image can usually be displayed after all. In my experience, all pictures with the common formats such as .jpg etc. are printed. There is nothing to complain about in terms of print quality, but the printing process is somewhat lengthy, which is not a problem for me.
One more small remark:
As already described on the shop page, the printer does not come with paper or ink cartridges. Among the accessories, a set is available that contains paper (108 pieces) and ink cartridges (3 pieces).
