The Canon EP-E4 is more than just a battery pack....

The Canon EP-E4 is more than just a battery pack. Thanks to the integrated electronics, the connected flash unit is supplied with 295V. This means that the flash unit is charged twice as fast. As a pleasant side effect, twice the number of flashes are available before the batteries have to be changed. Please only use powerful NiMH batteries, as their low internal resistance allows them to be recharged quickly. The price-performance ratio is right in my opinion.

    Pro

    • Very fast loading time (< 2 seconds)
    • Double the number of flashes until batteries are empty
    • Good workmanship

    Very big help for me

The Canon CP-E4 battery pack works great. For me it is important to have a fast flash firing time so that I can fire the flash 4 or 5 times in quick succession. But be careful, the flash gets very warm, so don't fire it more than 10 times in a row.

    Pro

    • Shorter charging times for the flash unit
    • More flashes between battery changes

    Contra

    • You always have to carry the battery with you

Great for event photographers and for slave units

The battery pack is great if you are shooting events, or for use on a slave unit, since you get much quicker recycle times and a lot more use out of the batteries. The only thing I didn't really like is that I had also planned to attach the batter back to the base of my 5d MRK III. It does have a screw on fitting for this, and in everything I read before buying, I never saw that this cannot be done on the 5D due to potential electrical interference (potentially ruining the photos). This is the reason I am only giving 4 stars, instead of 5. This should be mentioned in the documentation before buying. However, with the included case, and the adequate wire length, it can go in your pocket or attach to a belt. All in all, a good purchase.

    Pro

    • much faster recycle time
    • attain much more use out of the batteries

    Contra

    • not able to attach to the base of a 5D due to potential electrical interference
