The Kindle Paperwhite is very good value for money. If your budget allows it, the Kindle Voyage is a better choice.
The Kindle Paperwhite is a good entry-level reader. It is battery efficient and reading in sunlight is a real treat. I was able to compare it with the Kindle Voyage after my purchase and I have to say that if I had to do it again I would pay the price for the Kindle Voyage which has a much better screen (no shadow at the bottom of the screen).I was able to compare it with the Kindle Voyage after I bought it and I have to say that if I had to do it again I would put the price on the Kindle Voyage which has a much better screen quality (no shadow at the bottom of the screen when using the backlight) and better plastic quality (fingerprints are very visible on the Paperwhite).

Beware of light bleeding at the bottom of the screen
I purchased this as my first ereader.
I needed something dedicated for reading that would not tire my eyes and that would not allow me interruptions. I also wanted a Kindle because I already have several ebooks purchased via amazon.
The Kindle Paperwhite has front LEDs that will illuminate the screen when environmental light is low. My device came with a noticeable light bleed at the bottom of the screen which creates lines of shadow. I returned it to Digitec for a possible exchange but I learned that all Kindles have this issue. Furthermore, all ereaders with a front light have this issue because of the way that they are built. Front LEDs are supposed to be easier on the eyes than backlit LED (such as phones and tablets) but then you create this medium where reading with the front light can become disturbing. At the Digitec showroom, I also looked at the Kindle Paperwhite that they had for display, as well as at a Tolino Vision HD. They both had the exact same problem with the front light, with the exception that the Tolino has more LEDs (similar to Kindle Voyage) and therefore a different distribution of shadows at the bottom.

I give this device 5 stars for clear and crisp fonts, and reading in bright daylight without need for frontlight.
I must give it 2 stars for reading in a dark room with the front light on. It creates 4 lines of shadow and it messes up the hue of the display (blue tint at the bottom half, yellow tint at the upper half of the screen).
Overall, it sums up to 3 1/2 stars.Pro

Very good product.
Very good product, however the configuration of the shop is a bit complicated to put it in French for Switzerland (it is necessary to migrate your account from amazon.de to amazon.fr).

Fantastic
Love Kindles. Perfect day and night, light weight and you can personalize your letter. The "special offers" or adds when the device is on holds are a strange thing and can leave you embarrassed - if you think the add as nothing to do have with what you read. But you easily forget they are there and just enjoy the long reading time with one charge :) .

Pleasant reading experience

Like the old one, only faster. And sharper. And with better writing.
My old Kindle became very slow when turning pages and the shop hardly worked any more. The new one was set up quickly. Once you get used to always having the latest reading (and your favourite books) with you wherever you go, you don't want to do without it.
About the Special Offers: The screen is not really annoying. When the device is woken up from standby, you just have to swipe once instead of the text appearing immediately.
Since there are actually NO special offers available in Switzerland, I contacted US support via chat and complained about the blank screen. They offered to turn off the special offers for free. I gratefully accepted ;-)
I was also thrilled that the new Reader fits into the leather case of the old one.

Despite the negatives, I would buy the Kindle again.
Very satisfied. Pleasant to read and not distracting like an ipad or mobile phone.

If you can live with being permanently connected to the Amazon web, you're in for a treat! A SuperDing!
As the owner of a first-generation Kindle (which still runs perfectly for weeks), I had to think long and hard about making the move to the 2015 version.
Then I bought it and am completely satisfied.
In addition to the backlight, the new version also offers many other new features and setting options. The usability is really better than in Gen 1 - and that without lighting.
The illumination is once again a brilliant thing - not only in the dark, but also in the gloomy ;-) And above all: even when the lighting is on, the device still has a lifespan of several weeks until the battery is empty. Really a great engineering achievement.
PS: What is worse compared to the Gen 1 is that there are ads again. With the Gen 1, I was able to have this switched off after a few years. Free of charge. But the new 2015 now has these ads again. Or HAD this advertising - because currently no Swiss company puts advertising on the Kindle, which is then also only displayed temporarily. So you can buy the version with advertising!Pro

- Backlighting very useful - without sucking up much power
- Buying new books on the PC and transferring them to the reader is super easy.

This made me an avid reader again. I bring it everywhere and all the time! Read all the books!
Better than expected! Light weight, easy to read and to install and download books. Only "weird" thing about it is that I have to use amazon.de to buy the books from the kindle store and not amazon.com. Other than that, perfect.

Very good purchase
I found it small when I opened the package and was afraid that the font was too small but with the ability to adjust the size there is no problem. The adjustable backlight is a real plus, the ads are not intrusive and it is very easy to buy a book from the reader, very smooth navigation. I highly recommend it.
