Recently, camera manufacturers have criminally neglected entry-level cameras. As a result, hardly any new models have come onto the market that are available from specialist retailers for less than 1000 euros - let alone for less than 500 euros. In the days of DSLRs, the choice in this price range was much greater...

- Integrated image stabiliser
- 4K video with 60p
- High image quality
- high-quality body
- manageable speed
- no contemporary hybrid autofocus
No question: the Lumix S5D is not a spectacular new product. However, the price is spectacular. For currently around 999 euros, you get a well-equipped full-format camera with a kit lens. This is an attractive offer, especially for entry-level full-frame users. The camera can be used in a variety of ways in practice. However, it definitely lacks speed for sports and action photography.
- High photo and video quality
- films longer than 30 minutes and in 4K60p
- Somewhat low viewfinder resolution
- Autofocus not accurate for series
The Panasonic Lumix S5D impresses with its high image quality and many video functions, including 4K with 60 frames per second - not a matter of course in this price range. The difference to its predecessor is minimal, the most important innovation is the new kit lens. Thanks to its super wide angle, this is not only interesting for vloggers, but also great for architectural and landscape shots...
The dead live longer: With the Lumix S5D, Panasonic is resurrecting the 4K/6K photo functions and contrast AF with DFD extension. If you want a faster focus, you can use an external LiDAR AF module from DJI. The price is attractive: for around 1600 euros with the new, very compact Lumix S 4.5-6.3/18-40 mm kit lens, the buyer gets a splash-proof camera with very good features at an upper mid-range level.
- Very good video and photo quality
- Top video features
- Ergonomic and compact
- Low speed for continuous shooting
- Weak battery for photo
In our test, the Panasonic Lumix DC-S5D proves to be a full-frame camera with great image quality that even amateur photographers can afford. The 24-megapixel images score points with consistently high sharpness and good detail reproduction across all ISO levels, extensive features and convincing operation and feel...
