In AUTO mode, the camera detects many common photographic situations - from faces to groups to movements - and automatically makes the optimal settings. Of course, brightness, color and contrast can also be adjusted manually. Very simple with the slider on the touch screen. Selfie enthusiasts will love the up and down tilting display and e-portrait feature. This optimizes skin tones directly in the camera. Olympus has pioneered Art Filters and the touch screen brings them to life in a new way. Comparing different effects is easier than ever. Including the two new ones, Bleach Bypass and Instant Film, there are now 16 Art Filters available. The latter gives the shots a nostalgic touch with colours, as they used to be supplied by instant cameras. This effect is rather subtle in daylight. If you use it at night with a flash to take pictures of people, you get a rather subdued picture: dark areas are shown in green and the skin gets a warm glow - nostalgic and modern at the same time. What else does the E-PL9 have to offer to make its photos stand out from the crowd? One innovation is image stabilization directly in the housing (IS). This system, combined with the fast TruePic VIII image processor from Olympus' flagship OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera, reduces camera shake in low light and allows the camera to select longer shutter speeds*. This leads to optimal results even under challenging conditions.
