- Very good resolution
- High light intensity over the entire focal length
- Fast autofocus
- No image stabiliser
The rather spartan features, also due to the lack of an image stabiliser, resulted in a downgrade in the corresponding category in the test laboratory. However, this is also the only weakness of the new lens. Resolution and lens quality are very good. The very low edge shading is particularly impressive...
With the Nikkor 2 2.8/70-180 mm I, Nikon is now bringing out an inexpensive and at the same time fast telephoto zoom for 1400 euros. The Nikkor Z 2.8/70-200 mm VR S, available since 2020, costs almost twice as much at just under 2500 euros, offers only 20 mm more focal length, but is equipped with an image stabiliser...
With balanced performance, the Nikon Nikkor Z 2.8/70-180 mm narrowly achieves the super seal.
- In addition to the very good image performance, the very low weight for this lens class and the comparatively low price are among the plus points.
- An additional image stabiliser could help considerably with a 180-millimetre focal length, but would have meant more weight and volume
Those who work with full-frame cameras in the upper mid-range, which includes the Nikon Z 6ll used in the test, get a wide focal length range thanks to the Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8 and in addition to the other zoom lenses in the range. This is even available at a budget price.
