Die Nikon D700 ist mit einem 12 Megapixel Vollformatsensor bietet eine sehr gute Bildqualität und kann dies auch in höheren ISO-Bereichen unter Beweis stellen. Nicht ganz so gut wie die neueren Modelle, aber trotzdem auf einem sehr hohen Niveau. Auf einen Videomodus muss der Anwender hier verzichten.
Die kleine Schwester der D3 steht ein bisschen in ihrem Schatten, hat aber einiges zu bieten - vor allem, wenn man ein kleineres Gehäuse benötigt.

Markantes Merkmal der semiprofessionellen Vollformatkamera im Vergleich zu der D300s ist der voluminöse Sucher; links oben nebn dem Suchereinblick findet sich der Okularverschluss.
...Bei beiden Modellen lässt sich ein künstlicher Horizont einblenden, um die Kamera am Stativ exakt in der Waagerechten auszurichten. Die dazugehörige Grafik kann bei der D700 auch in das Live-View-Bild eingeblendet werden; bei der D3 hat man diese Möglichkeit erst dann, wenn das Firmware-Update 2.0 aufgespielt wurde...
Reisefotografen werden den kompakten Blitz der Nikon D700 zu schätzen wissen. Die D700 weist ein extrem geringes Bildrauschen bei hoher Empfindlichkeit und in dunklen Bildstellen auf.
