Insta360 ONE R is a modular action camera system. The 1-inch edition comes with an action camera module equipped with a 1-inch type sensor, along with a core module and a necessary battery base that holds the modules together. The core module, acting as the 'brain' of the system, connects to the desired camera module adjacent to the battery base. The battery base features a standard 3-pin action camera mount, allowing the ONE R to be attached to various action camera mounts.

The core module includes a touchscreen and control panel. When the core module is used with the 1-inch mod, the display can be rotated to face the same direction as the lens for selfie videos and pictures. The 1-inch mod also features Insta360's acclaimed FlowState stabilization.

There is a dedicated iOS and Android app for the ONE R that allows for easy and intuitive editing of all the material captured with this camera system. The ONE R also has Bluetooth connectivity, enabling it to be controlled by an Apple Watch or a remote made specifically for this device (sold separately). The Insta360 ONE R also supports an external microphone with a separately sold microphone adapter.
