New in Stiftung Warentest's headphone comparison: 32 current in-ear and headband headphones. One of them delivers top sound, another is top fit for sports. In addition to the test winners, the current test offers many other good headphones. With long battery runtimes of up to almost 86 hours, the headphones with earpieces scored particularly well...
- Solid sound
- Great battery life and fast charging
- Poor app
- No protection against splash water
The Huawei FreeBuds 4i convinced in the test with pleasantly warm sound and really strong battery life of almost nine hours. The quick charge after 10 minutes for an additional 3.5 hours is also really good. Deductions are made for the lack of volume control on the in-ears, and the app only offers the bare essentials. Huwei also does not provide any information about water protection.
- Balanced, neutral sound
- Very good noise cancelling + transparency mode
- Strong battery life
- Very good price-performance ratio
- Bass occasionally too soft
- Questionable positioning in the case
- ANC hardly influences the sound
- App only for Android, but not via the Google Play Store
Even though Huawei relies on tricky touch operation here, the Chinese have succeeded well with the 4i. The touch gestures respond well and can be adapted to personal preferences. The sound slightly emphasises the low bass, but otherwise remains largely neutral. The ANC worked well in the test. It remains unclear why the corresponding app is only available for Android smartphones.

- Touch operation
- Battery
- Depths could be a little more present
Unless you're looking for a professional codec variety and simply want decent sound quality and features at a reasonable price, we can recommend the Huawei FreeBuds 4i.
The Huawei FreeBuds 4i retain the strengths of their predecessor: The sound is convincing and the noise-cancelling works well. What used to be the biggest weakness has now become a strength: the battery lasts almost nine hours with the noise-cancelling function activated - great!
