Product details
The EF 1:1.8/50mm STM has an improved technical design over its predecessor: Canon's Super Spectra coating reduces side-effects, Canon's 7-lamellar iris diaphragm produces soft blur, and Canon's Stepping
Motor (STM) provides continuous and virtually silent autofocus. Compact, lightweight and affordable, the EF 1:1.8/50mm STM is a welcome addition to your camera bag.
The high speed of 1:1.8 allows precise control of the depth of field: it gives you the creative freedom to focus on the subject and immerse the rest of the image in a soft blur. This allows the viewer's gaze to be immediately directed to a specific area of the image. In addition, the lens with its large initial aperture is predestined for use in poor lighting conditions.
The lens with its focal length of 50 mm in combination with an EOS-DSLR with APS-C camera is very well suited for taking pictures of people with a typical portrait image. The EF 1:1.8/50mm STM is also a practical lens for full-frame cameras for a whole range of everyday tasks with a natural-looking angle of view and corresponding perspective.
The lens offers a close-up limit of only 35 cm. This allows you to get even closer to the subject and achieve a higher reproduction scale. The 7-lamella iris diaphragm provides attractive light reflections with a blurred image background. The improved image quality of the lens compared to the previous model is due to the Canon Super Spectra coating, which efficiently reduces aperture reflections and stray light.
The lens has a compact and lightweight design with a weight of only 160 grams. It fits easily into the camera bag without significantly affecting the overall weight of the equipment. The new design of the lens fits both the entry-level and the semi-professional EOS cameras and convinces with a metal lens bayonet for a robust connection to the camera body. In addition, the lens with its manual focusing ring allows the freedom to precisely control the focal plane.
