This trend will make you rethink the way you organise your fridge
Ever thought of popping a bouquet of roses, a vintage vase or a string of lights in your fridge? Sounds nuts, but that’s exactly what fridgescaping’s about.
Fridgescaping is a current interior design trend with the aim to add beauty to our kitchens. As you’ve probably guessed, the term fridgescaping is a portmanteau combining the words fridge and landscaping. The trend is about organising and maintaining your fridge, as well as creatively styling its contents to achieve an aesthetically pleasing look. Think orchids next to vegetables and antique bowls storing fresh herbs. Fridgescaping is designed to add style to any kitchen and make the fridge a highlight.
More than just order and function
The trend goes far beyond pure functionality: TikTokers including Tiffany Bishop, Lynzi Judish and Eve Scampoli decorate their fridges with flowers, pictures, sculptures and even fairy lights to create a pretty inner life following a theme – similar to decorating a room. A fridge crammed full with food? Enough of that, say influencers like these ladies. They want to show how fridgescaping injects aesthetics into everyday life and how beautiful practical things can be.
Although looks play a major role, the functionality of the refrigerator should remain integral to fridgescaping. Food’s arranged in a way that makes it easily accessible, which is why see-through containers, baskets and trays are a must-have. These should be matching and colour-coordinated. Original packaging is also often removed and the contents transferred to reusable containers to create visual calm.
Luxury look criticised
In an Elle Decor article, Lynzi Judish mentions that fridgescaping has had a positive effect on her eating habits. She claims she cooks more, experiments with new ingredients and eats healthier because she feels inspired by her eye-catching fridge. Lynzi gets a «dopamine hit» when she opens the fridge door and often chooses themes for her designs. For example, the Netflix series Bridgerton. The trend has been ridiculed by other TikTokers such as comedian Shabaz Says. In his video, he mocks Judish’s work Fridgerton and fridgescaping in general, calling it an «autistic movement» and a pastime for the rich.
Other critics also find the trend over the top and unnecessary. Some people are questioning whether these fridge designers actually cook and where they find the time and money to follow the trend. However, TikToker Tiffany Bishop emphasises that many of the decorations used were very affordable or second-hand.

Tongue in cheek
The trend remains an example of how even the inside of a fridge can look like an ad. Its intention is to gently seduce you and your eyes. No item should be just randomly standing about, not even in the fridge. After all, a refrigerator, like your wardrobe, is also an integral part of your home’s interior.
Eve Scampoli spoke about her approach to fridgescaping in an interview with Today and emphasised that it’s all a bit tongue in cheek. She laughs at mishaps she’s had; crushing eggs with a tequila decanter, for example. Eva adds that you should really only decorate your fridge to design magazine standards if you really enjoy it.
