These are the game highlights for August
The summer of gaming is still heating up in August. No matter which platform you play on, numerous AAA blockbusters and indie gems are waiting for you.
Summer slump? Not if you’re a gamer this year. Once again, plenty of games will be released in August, all vying for your attention. Forget summer, sun and beaches. These are the titles you can look forward to in the coming weeks.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to be a huge game. According to developer Larian, the role-playing game includes 174 hours of cutscenes and 17,000 possible endings. Oh, and sex with bears is there, too. On PC, you can plunge into the world of Faerûn as early as August 3. PlayStation fans will have to wait until September. The Xbox version doesn’t have a concrete release date yet due to technical issues with the Series S version.

Gord
Gord is a survival building game from former developers of The Witcher . The monster-infested game world is inspired by Slavic mythology. The strategy game focuses on the story and is supposed to offer a hefty challenge.

WrestleQuest
A turn-based RPG with a charming pixel look. You’ll take on the role of a novice wrestler looking to become a professional. Wrestling legends such as «Macho Man» Randy Savage and André the Giant will be on hand to help.

Atlas Fallen
In Atlas Fallen (almost) everything revolves around sand. The action RPG is set in a ruthless desert world full of monsters. A magic glove grants you superpowers. It lets you glide across the sand and forge powerful weapons to kill the evil sand monsters.

Stray
Here kitty, kitty, kitty. The sci-fi cat game is finally coming to Xbox. The game has been available on PlayStation and PC for a year now. Phil is completely enamoured with the game.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical
Stray Gods is a playable musical with RPG elements and an impressive all-star cast, including The Last of Us Part II stars Laura Bailey, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. Your decisions don’t just influence the plot, but the composition of songs too.

En Garde!
Fancy some stylish swordplay? You’ll get plenty of it in En Garde! Duels will have you wielding your rapier, but also using the environment in a creative way against enemies.

Vampire Survivors
Surprise hit Vampire Survivors is coming to the Switch. A perfect game for quick, casual rounds. There’s now also a co-op mode for up to four players.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
This asymmetrical multiplayer horror game isn’t for the faint of heart! Four potential victims must flee from three psychopathic killers. Which role you adopt is up to you. The game comes from the developers of the Friday the 13th game.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Remember Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast? Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is inspired by Sega’s cult classic. From the cel-shaded look, to the graffiti gameplay, to the funky soundtrack, the game is a heartfelt declaration of love to the original from 2000.

Madden NFL 24
Another year, another Madden game. EA Sports promises more strategies and tactics, a new blocking system and smarter AI, among other things.

Immortals of Aveum
Instead of using weapons and ammunition, Immortals of Aveum has you shooting around magical abilities. You can also use them to fly around in style.

Fort Solis
The plot-heavy game is set on Mars. You investigate an unusual distress call from the remote Fort Solis mining station. In top-shelf space horror fashion, everything goes wrong in the eponymous fort, of course. According to developer Fallen Leaf, the game is designed as a playable Netflix show that you can binge in a weekend.

Blasphemous 2
The dark Metroidvania game Blasphemous has a successor. This one is supposed to score with better puzzles and a larger arsenal of weapons.

Firewall Ultra
Firewall Ultra is a competitive VR shooter for the PlayStation VR2. The game fully utilises the hardware of Sony’s headset. Take the integrated eye tracking: if you close your eyes, you can protect yourself from the effects of a flash grenade.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
The Elden Ring and Souls development studio is back with mech shooter Armored Core XI: Fires of Rubicon. Fans of the series have been waiting for a successor for over ten years.

Goodbye Volcano High
Goodbye Volcano High is a high school drama about dinosaurs. Yep, you read that right. A comet threatens to destroy the earth. You experience the last weeks of a group of teenagers. In addition to their everyday problems, they also have to deal with the end of the world.

Sea of Stars
This beautiful pixel RPG will make any retro heart beat faster. Sea of Stars is being developed by The Messenger developer Sabotage. Both games are set in the same universe.

In this game you live alone, completely isolated from the outside world in an underwater station. As a professional diver, you investigate the depths of the North Sea. But as time goes by, you get the feeling that maybe you’re not all alone down here after all…

Samba de Amigo: Party Central
Samba de Amigo was an iconic party music game for the Sega Dreamcast. It was played with special maraca controllers. Now the rhythm game is making a comeback on the Switch, and you can use the Joy-Con controllers. Later this year, Samba de Amigo: Party Central will also be released for VR platforms.
