2022 promises to be a bombastic year for games. The first blockbusters will already be released in February.

I hope you've recovered well from 2021. For gamers, there's not much time to catch your breath and reduce the infamous "Pile of Shame". The next gaming gems are already waiting. In all likelihood, 2022 will be an eventful gaming year - unless everything gets postponed again... I'm staying positive. Here are 31 games you should remember. They are sorted by release date.

"Sifu"

"Sifu" is a fighting game in which you get older after each defeat, but also stronger. As a kung-fu master, you may beat the crap out of your opponents with one punch - but if you get any older, you bite the dust and the game starts all over again. Exciting concept that I definitely have to try out.

Released: February 8 for PC, PS4 and PS5.

"OlliOlli World"

I'm always up for a new skate game. "OlliOlli World", like its predecessors, goes its own way. Here we grind and flip in the style of an Endless Runner. The game is full of charm with its world of ghost trees and zombie bees.

Released: February 8 for PC and Switch

"Rumbleverse"

alley.

Released: February 15th for PC

"Horizon Forbidden West"

The first part slayed me with its enormous amount of side action. However, the exciting story and the varied battles against the various robot dinos ensured that the game kept me hooked until the end. Hopefully the second part will start in the right places and not go Ubisoft. Less is more, I can't say it enough.

Released: February 18 for PS4, PS5

"Elden Ring"

Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki ventures into the open game world. The parallels to Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne or Sekiro are unmistakable. Nevertheless, it seems to set some new impulses with the battle on horseback and more exploration space.

Released: February 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.

"Gran Turismo 7"

Simon would never forgive me if I didn't mention this game. Undoubtedly the highlight of the year for car and simulation fans. Here you'll find not only overpriced supercars, but also VW Polos and Renault Clios for mere mortals.

Released: March 4, 2022 for PS4, PS5

"Tiny Tina's Wonderworld"

"Borderlands" mixed with fantasy and hopefully a bit more intelligent story than in part 3 - and there we have "Tiny Tina's Wonderworld". The world and the creatures look wonderfully creative. There is also a co-op mode again, so almost nothing can go wrong.

Released: March 25th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X

"Weird West"

"Weird West" is set, as the name suggests, in a weird version of the Wild West. What makes it special, however, is neither magic nor monsters, but the playful freedom. There are different heroes with different characteristics, which should make each playthrough unique. "Weird West" belongs to the "Immersive Sim" category and is one of the highlights of this year for me.

Released: March 31 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.

"Marvel's Midnight Suns"

Firaxis, the makers of "XCOM," bring turn-based tactics fun to the Marvel universe. I don't have much affinity for the Elastan fetishists. However, the new map system could bring enough freshness to the somewhat dusty gameplay that I can overlook it.

Released: March 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Switch.

"Stalker 2"

Hardly any game has created a world as dead and alive at the same time as the first "Stalker". Now it's back to the irradiated reactor area, with hopefully just as tough enemies and mysterious game world.

Released: April 28 for PC, Xbox Series S/X

"Stray"

A cat searching for its way home in a mysterious city populated by robots. I'm always up for new game ideas, and "Stray" feels delightfully unspent with its puzzles and environmental storytelling.

Released: early 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5

"Warhammer 40,000: Darktide"

From the makers of "Vermentide" comes "Darktide", the next four-player co-op adventure. This time in the dark and dirty Warhammer 40,000 universe, where there are again hordes of bloodthirsty monsters to mow down.

Released: Spring 2022 for PC

"Saints Row"

Over-the-top open-world action games are always welcome. "Saints Row" serves up a rich buffet of weapons, vehicles and acrobatic maneuvers with a wingsuit or hoverboard. Suitable for all those who don't want to wait for "GTA VI".

Released: August 23 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X

"Redfall"

Arkane, the makers of "Prey", are trying their hand at a cooperative multiplayer shooter for the first time with "Redfall". Instead of a space station with aliens that can take on other forms, there are vampires with super abilities. Sounds promising.

Released: Summer 2022 for PC and Xbox Series S/X.

"Songs of Conquest"

"Songs of Conquest" is the spiritual successor to "Heroes of Might and Magic." If, like me, you're into turn-based fantasy games where you explore a magical world from a bird's eye view and raise your army of hydras, dragons and gryphons, then you've come to the right place.

Coming: Q2 2022 for PC

"Starfield"

Bethesda's upcoming open-world sci-fi adventure is scheduled for release at the end of the year. As of yet, we know virtually nothing about the game. However, after the takeover by Microsoft and the "Fallout 76" flop, expectations are especially high to get a high-quality role-playing game again.

Released: November 1 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.

"God of War Ragnarok"

The reboot of the hack-'n'-slash series brought us a much more grown-up Kratos. Now he fought not only for revenge, but also for his son, and in a new semi-open game world. "Ragnarok" seems to be heading in the same direction, and again with the wonderfully massive Boomerang axe from the first part.

Released: 2022 for PS5

Sequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

There hasn't been much to see of the successor to the "Zelda" remake from 2017. Link can apparently now dive through the ground and the world looks very airy. Otherwise, it's almost too much like its predecessor. But like most, I'm happy with any new Breath of the Wild content.

Released: 2022 for the Switch

"Hollow Knight Silksong"

For many, "Hollow Knight" is considered one of the best Metroidvania games ever. The picturesque world with its whimsical beetle-like inhabitants is full of secrets and crisp combat. Part two should build on this winning formula.

Released: 2022 for PC and Switch

"Company of Heroes 3"

Instead of huge armies like in "Command & Conquer", you only command a handful of units in the "Company of Heroes" series. Every soldier and every vehicle is essential for the success of a mission. I'm already looking forward to new sweaty skirmishes in the third part.

Released: 2022 for PC

"Baldur's Gate 3"

"Divinity Original Sin is one of the best role-playing games of recent years. It offers an incredible amount of tactical possibilities in battles and countless complex and gripping stories. "Baldur's Gate 3" comes from the same developer studio and adapts the successful concept of the first two "Baldur's Gate" titles and the "Dungeons & Dragons" universe.

Release date: 2022 for PC. Already available as Early Access

"Ghostwire: Tokyo"

No idea what's going on in this game. The mix of supernatural powers, ghostly creatures and Japanese horror could be a delightfully hellish ride.

Released: 2022 for PC and PS5

"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League"

A left-right combo is coming from DC this year. The first is "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League," which features over-the-top humor and wacky characters. The game can be played solo or with four players. I'm already saying "dips" for King Shark.

Released: 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X

"Gotham Knights"

Gotham Knights" should be a bit more sinister. Batman counts the radishes from below. As a result, chaos breaks out in the city and the Gotham Knights Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood have to put super villains like Mr. Freeze or the Penguin back in jail. Here it can be played either alone or in pairs. The battle system builds on the tried and tested one of the "Arkham" series and hopefully brings enough innovations.

Released: 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X

"Arc Raiders"

Impressive graphics, fascinating sci-fi setting, giant spider robots and packaged as a free-to-play co-op shooter. A lot of gamers should be looking forward to that.

Released: 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X

"Metal Slug Tactics"

The arcade series was always a bit too hectic for me. Too many enemies, too fast projectiles, too slow fingers. So it fits perfectly that the fights in "Tactics" are turn-based. Looks nice. Must have.

Released: 2022 for PC, Switch

"Nightingale"

Colonial-style fantasy world, survival and building mechanics, multiplayer and all wrapped up in magical graphics. "Nightingale" does everything right on paper, and with ex-Bioware boss Aaryn Flinn, there's also a well-known name behind the project. I'm very excited about it.

Release date: 2022 in Early Access for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge."

Pixel graphics to fall in love with, a groovy soundtrack and massive brawling with up to four players. That makes my nostalgic heart beat faster.

Released: 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Switch

"Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.

The first installment took the tried-and-true "XCOM" formula, mixed in a good helping of chaotic Rabbids, and flavored the whole thing with plenty of Nintendo charm. The result was a cuddly looking, surprisingly tricky and yet accessible tactics game. More of this, please!

Released: 2022 for Switch

"Dead Space Remake"

"Dead Space" remains one of the best and scariest horror games ever. Since the first part didn't age particularly well, I'm really looking forward to the remake. As Isaac Clarke, I can once again relieve aliens of their limbs. Secretly, however, I almost hope that the spongy controls will be retained. That's what made me sweat the most blood.

Release date: End of 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem"

A dark tale about a terrible plague in medieval France. A brother and sister on the run and rats everywhere - thousands of rats. In the course of the first part you learn to use the ravenous rodents against your enemies. Part two comes up with even more beautiful graphics than part 1. I'm curious to see where the story will lead.

Released: 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
