The trailer for the "Borderlands" film perfectly captures the chaos of the game
The director of "Hostel" and a high-calibre cast, including Cate Blanchett and Jack Black, let it rip in the first "Borderlands" film.
The looter shooter series "Borderlands" has already sold over 80 million copies. "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands" was a successful spin-off. No wonder the colourful games, with their millions upon millions of weapons, are now being followed by a film.
The film looks much better in the first trailer than I would have expected from an adaptation of the fun but very shallow games. Director Eli Roth ("Hostel") seems to capture the tonality of the chaotic world of Pandora perfectly. It's colourful, wild, there are bangs at every corner and the characters are one shriller than the next. Fortunately, there is also no trace of the cringy twitch humour of the third part of the Speiel series.
The film relies on quite a star ensemble. First and foremost Cate Blanchett, who plays the trigger-happy treasure hunter Lilith. Jack Black lends his voice to the chattering robot Claptrap. Jamie Lee Curtis takes on Dr Patricia Tannis and Kevin Hart plays ex-soldier Roland. Ariana Greenblatt slips into the role of the legendary Tiny Tina and German muscleman Florian Munteanu is her bodyguard Krieg.
The film tells its own story, but offers plenty of fanservice with gangs like the Bandits, vehicles and locations. The film opens in cinemas on 8 August. <p
