The Amped Buds from HMD are wireless in-ear headphones with active noise cancellation and a special feature: the charging case also serves as a power bank for your smartphone.

Anyone who is often on the move will be familiar with the problem: headphones and smartphones are used intensively and the batteries eventually run out. This can be a problem, especially when travelling, on public transport or during long working days. The Amped Buds from HMD are aimed specifically at users who are looking for wireless in-ear headphones - and who also value a mobile charging option. This is because the Amped Buds charging case is not only used to charge the earphones, but can also be used as a power bank for your smartphone.

The Amped Buds from HMD are in-ear headphones with an unobtrusive, simple design. The colour options are black and cyan. The charging case measures 74 x 60 x 14.3 millimetres and weighs 78 grams. The earphones themselves are ergonomically shaped and, according to the manufacturer, should sit firmly in the ear thanks to an adjustable hinge.

Sound quality and noise cancellation

The sound is provided by 10 mm drivers in each earbud. The Amped Buds offer active noise cancellation (ANC), which reduces ambient noise. Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) is also used. This technology filters out disturbing background noise during phone calls. A total of six microphones support ANC and ENC.

According to the manufacturer, the sound tuning of the Amped Buds aims to achieve a balanced sound. Treble, mid-range and bass should be evenly emphasised. For users who expect very precise or bass-heavy audio profiles, the sound characteristics are kept rather neutral.

Battery life and charging functions

The battery life of the Amped Buds depends on whether ANC is activated. Without noise cancellation, the battery life is up to 8.1 hours. With ANC, it drops to 4.9 hours per charging cycle. The charging case with a capacity of 1600 mAh extends the total runtime to up to 95 hours without ANC and up to 58 hours with ANC.

A unique feature of the Amped Buds is the ability to use the charging case as a power bank. Wireless reverse charging according to the Qi2 standard is supported. This allows you to charge smartphones that support wireless charging directly via the case.

Connectivity and operation

The Amped Buds connect to your smartphone or other devices via Bluetooth 5.4. Functions such as Google Fast Pair enable a quick connection to Android devices. Multipoint connectivity is also available so that you can pair the headphones with two devices at the same time. The earbuds are also compatible with iPhones and all smartphone brands.

For use outdoors or during sporting activities, the Amped Buds are protected against dust and splash water in accordance with IP54. The charging case itself is IPX4 certified. This means that the earbuds are not completely waterproof, but are protected against light rain or sweat.
