"Superfinger": Adidas makes fun of itself with a new sneaker
The new version of the Adidas "Superstar" comes with an unusual twist: four finger-like outgrowths made of rubber. Designed in collaboration with the Swedish label Avavav, the sneaker pokes fun at the seriousness of sport.
The German sporting goods giant Adidas has launched its collaboration with the young Swedish label Avavav on the market. Probably the most eye-catching product from the collection: the "Superfinger Superstar", a hybrid of the brands' respective signature silhouettes.
This product, which looks absolutely wild at first glance, is basically a normal "Superstar". The only thing that sets it apart is a rubber attachment that gives the classic trainers fingers - or extra-long toes? Claws? A matter of interpretation. And because that's not strange enough, there are only four instead of five outgrowths per foot for extraterrestrial flair. The design is a reference to the "finger" boots from Avavav, an integral part of the label.
"I was encouraged to make fun of Adidas"
But don't worry, the top is removable. So you can decide whether you feel like being a human or a monster today. The frame has adjustable buckles on the sides for a perfect fit and can even be combined with other shoes. If you prefer to wear your fingers close to your hand, they can even be converted into a small bag. The four compartments seem perfect for storing pens, rolled-up banknotes and lip gloss.

You can't take it all that seriously? That's exactly the intention. Avavav creative director Beate Karlsson, known for her humorous, rebellious approach, explains in the press release: "From the beginning of our partnership, I was encouraged to make fun of Adidas. There is so much irony in how seriously we take both sport and fashion." Playing with the "incredibly strong DNA" of Adidas has long been a dream of hers and has been incredibly fun.
The collection is deliberately unathletic
Back in September, Avavav teased her collaboration with Adidas for the spring 2025 collections at Milan Fashion Week. The absurd mix of catwalk, sports competition and satire took place in the historic Forza e Coraggio sports arena and was billed as an attempt to break the world record for short-distance running. The models jogged half-heartedly to clumsily across the sprint track, stumbling, struggling for breath, pretending to vomit. Some completed the sprint in "Superfinger Superstars".
This playful approach is also continued in the recently released video campaign for the collaboration. It is entitled "The Worst Game You've Ever Seen" and shows models in a deliberately unathletic game of football.
The "Superfinger Superstar" is available in black and white and red and white at a proud price of 300 francs. Together with the rest of the collection, including three-finger gloves for 140 francs, ultra-short training jackets for 230 francs and voluminous puffer jackets for 650 francs, it has been available from Adidas and Avavav since 21 November.
Has endless love for shoulder pads, Stratocasters and sashimi, but a limited tolerance for bad impressions of her Eastern Swiss dialect.
