Samsung announces four major Android updates for its top smartphones
Samsung wants to supply its top smartphones with four new Android versions in the future. Thus, the Galaxy devices are better supplied than Google's Pixel smartphones.

Four Android generations for the top devices
In the footnotes of the press release, Samsung gets more specific about which devices are eligible for the four Android updates, but also makes restrictions. "Availability and timing for Android OS upgrades and features depend on device model and market." A guarantee looks different.
Currently, Samsung says the new Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra, as well as last year's S21, S21+, S21 Ultra and the recently released Galaxy S21 FE, are eligible for four Android updates. The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 smartphones as well as the new Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra tablets will also receive updates.
With the four major Android updates announced - for the S22, that would be Android 13, 14, 15, and 16 - Samsung is outpacing Google in feature updates. As the company behind Android, Google only provides its current Pixel 6 devices with three Android updates - and five years of security updates. Samsung is currently also promised four years for these.
Google should be able to provide its devices with updates faster than Samsung. However, both are still behind Apple in terms of support time. iOS 15 is currently available for all devices up to the iPhone 6s from 2015 - even if not with all new features.
