Rubber flip-flops for 130 francs: Havaianas collaborates with Dolce & Gabbana
Havaianas has launched four exclusive flip-flop models on the market in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana. They cost more than four times as much as the standard version - and are still highly coveted.
The iconic rubber flip-flops from Havaianas actually cost around 30 francs. What has now catapulted the newly released unisex models from the Brazilian brand over the 100 francs mark? A luxurious collaboration, of course.
Southern Italian flair and luxury branding
Four limited edition flip-flop models have been created in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana. In the spirit of the Italian fashion house, they feature exuberant patterns. The two "Animals" models come in a zebra and leopard print. "Blu Mediterraneo" is inspired by blue and white Sicilian tiles. "Carretto Siciliano", on the other hand, is inspired by colourful, elaborately painted Sicilian horse-drawn carts. The strap has a velvety finish on all designs.
To make it clear that this is a designer collaboration, both a small D&G pin on the strap and a printed Dolce & Gabbana on the back of the footbed indicate the Italian brand's involvement. And to complete the luxury experience, the expensive shoes are not sold in an ordinary box, but in a laminated shoe box with gold lettering printed to match the design.
Expensive, but coveted
The four pieces have been available since last Thursday in the online shops of both brands as well as in flagship stores, pop-ups and selected retailers. On Dolce & Gabbana's Swiss website, the shoes are available for 130 francs. This means they cost more than four times as much as regular Havaianas flip-flops. Funnily enough, there is a comparable leopard-print model in Havaianas' German online shop. Without the luxury logo, velvet straps and fancy cardboard - but at a price that is 100 francs cheaper.
Despite the high price, the flip-flops from the collaboration are still half the price of comparable rubber slippers from Dolce & Gabbana. Perhaps this is why all four designs are already completely sold out on the Havaianas website (as of Monday afternoon). Online at Dolce & Gabbana, the "Blu Mediterraneo" and "Carretto Siciliano" models are still available in a few large sizes.
