According to the manufacturer, the game pieces of the "Chess Genius Pro 2024" are handmade real wood pieces. With its front panel and chessboard in wood decor, the device is said to have a classic, elegant look. The pieces are said to "offer a pleasant playing experience with black piece felt". The embedded magnets are designed to prevent it from falling over while playing. This is particularly helpful when travelling.

For beginners and experienced players

According to the manufacturer, the chess computer offers an almost unlimited number of difficulty levels. The easy levels are designed to give beginners a quick sense of achievement. For strong players, there are tournament levels with up to 2200 Elo. For comparison: Jan Gustafsson, the German grandmaster, currently has an Elo rating of 2598. Magnus Carlsen, multiple world chess champion, currently has an Elo rating of 2831.

You can also choose a level with freely adjustable times, number of moves and time increment. The "Chess Genius Pro 2024" can save and reload up to twelve games. Among other things, it offers computer moves and different playing styles. The chess computer can also resign games or offer draws.

AI functions for learning new tactics and strategies

An optional chess trainer warns you of bad moves, offers to take them back and makes suggestions for improvement. This is primarily intended to help beginners and amateur players learn new tactics and strategies and learn from mistakes. A help button also shows you possible moves in the game: either just for your selected piece or for all pieces. If you wish, the computer can show you the names of the openings played on the display.

The "Chess Genius Pro 2024" is based on the Chess Genius software by Richard Lang. Lang was regarded as the best chess software programmer in the 1980s and beyond. The software supports 14 languages and offers a text-based menu system. The processor is designed to enable fast reaction times at all levels of play. The device works with batteries, NiMH rechargeable batteries or the optional mains adapter. It recognises phases of non-use and automatically switches to power-saving mode.

The playing field measures 20 x 20 centimetres and, according to the manufacturer, has its own pressure sensor technology. The colour display provides access to all of the chess computer's functions.
