No motivation for evening skincare? Maybe you’re just missing some romance
At the end of a long day, it’s the easy tasks that I struggle with the most. Doing my skincare before bedtime is one of them. But since I made my routine more romantic, I’ve been getting really excited about it.
If I don’t enjoy something, I won’t do it in the long run. The same applies to sport and my daily skincare routine. My skincare routine used to take a lot of effort – especially in the evening. So I went searching for tricks and tips. With little extras and a bit of pre-planning, the chore has become a ritual which I now look forward to.
Timing
Once I’ve sunk into the sofa cushions no one will get me out of them. That’s something that’ll never change, so my skincare is the first thing I do when I’ve finished my day at work. As soon as I’m through the front door, the first stop is the bathroom.
Atmosphere
I think of my evening routine as a date with myself that calms me down and ushers in the end of the day. That’s why I create the right mood in the bathroom first. To do this, I light a scented candle, pull out my mobile and let my happy playlist resound from the boom box. And don’t worry, the Wonderboom is splashproof and handles the action around the sink very well. What the Wonderboom might have a lot more trouble with is my loud singing and the crazy dance moves I perform to the soundtracks of High School Musical. All while I massage my face with a cleanser.
Even the right decoration makes you more motivated. You can neatly arrange candles, speakers, crystals, incense sticks etc on a marble tray. So, assuming you have space and enjoy this kind of thing, you can put together a little beauty altar, the sight of which will put you in the right mood for a little self-care.
Tools
The first thing I do is scrape my hair back out of my face. For this, I keep a hair clip or headband in my mirrored cabinet. That way I don’t have to rush through the entire flat to find a hair bobble. Some also keep two «Face Wash Hand Wrist Scrunchies». These are basically absorbent sweatbands for your wrists that prevent water from running down your forearms toward your elbows and dripping everywhere when you wash your face. Find little comforts and prepare the bathroom in way that’s important to you and makes your routine more enjoyable.
I dry my cleansed face with a small, freshly washed terrycloth towel that I’ve prepared the night before. This stops me from being tempted to just reach for the hand towel. They’re full of bacteria and can cause spots. Plus, spots are the last thing I need after so much maintenance. If you have a radiator in the bathroom, you can put the fresh towel over it at the beginning of your routine. The cosy warmth on your face gives you that extra spa feeling.
After drying off, I throw the cloth straight into the laundry basket. Once I’ve finished my routine, I grab two new towels so I’m ready for the next morning and evening.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
