Netflix brings back "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" as an anime - with Chris Evans
Exciting news for "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" fans: the comic is returning as an anime series on Netflix. Almost all the actors from the 2010 film adaptation are on board - including Michael Cera and Chris Evans.
When it will be released is not known. "Soon" is all that is said on the YouTube channel. We are talking about the cult comic "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World". It was already filmed by Edgar Wright in 2010. Netflix is now planning to revive the comic as an anime series. This is not new. But since last night, we know who will be taking on the speaking roles: the almost complete cast from Edgar Wright's film adaptation. The new teaser trailer reveals:

And then there's - of course - Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Satya Bhabha and Mae Whitman as the evil ex-boyfriends.
Familiar faces behind the scenes too
Those who fear a Netflix fiasco à la "Cowboy Bebop" can breathe a cautiously optimistic sigh of relief. Because director Edgar Wright will return as executive producer. And more importantly: "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley himself will be pulling the strings as author and showrunner. The aim is to create an adaptation that is as true to the original as possible.
The whole thing is being drawn by Science SARU, the anime studio behind classics such as "Devilman Crybaby" and "Ping Pong the Animation". In fact, Science SARU is often characterised by a deliberately simple style in which proportions do not always remain consistent. This suits the over-the-top style of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World", even if the studio will probably not animate quite so unrestrainedly and stay closer to the comic original.
What is "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" actually about
? The usually lazy Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is 23, bass player in a rock band and dating high school student Knives (Ellen Wong). Everything is perfect. But then he meets the mysterious Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), with whom he falls head over heels in love. Ramona is also interested in him, but there is one major obstacle. Or rather: seven big obstacles. Before Scott and Ramona can really be together, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends (yes, they know they're evil and are pretty open about it - that's part of the charm of the comics). Because the "alliance" of former lovers controls Ramona's love life and does everything it can to spoil Scott Pilgrim's tour.
