The big monitor preview 2024
by Samuel Buchmann
Shortly before CES 2024, LG presents its monitor line-up for the trade fair. With three new WOLED models, the manufacturer is trying to keep pace with the growing QD OLED competition from Samsung.
OLED monitors with 4K resolution at 32 inches are eagerly awaited. Various models with these key data will be on display at the CES electronics trade fair in January. LG is already presenting one in advance: the 32GS95UE with "dual-resolution function". The display manufacturer is also presenting two curved ultrawide screens, the 34GS95QE and the 39GS95QE.
This takes the battle between the two different OLED technologies into the next round. LG relies on panels with the latest generation of WOLED in its screens. Many other manufacturers use Samsung's QD OLED. Asus, Alienware and MSI, for example, have each announced a 32-inch display with QD OLED, 4K and 240 hertz. Click here for the overview:
The flat 32GS95UE is likely to end up on the watch list of many gamers. With its 4K resolution, it offers a pixel density of 164 pixels per inch (ppi). The frame rate is 240 hertz. At least in normal mode. However, the 32GS95UE has a trick up its sleeve: at the touch of a button, it becomes a full HD screen with 480 hertz. This can be useful for competitive shooters.
LG also speaks of a "powerful, nuanced sound" and "Pixel Sound technology that creates a three-dimensional soundscape" in the press release. Whoever believes it will be blessed. However, there is no information on the brightness of the panel. However, it is likely to be LG's latest panel generation, which is also used in TVs. It has a peak brightness of 1300 nits, with a picture-filling brightness of around 250 nits. This corresponds roughly to the brightness of Samsung's QD-OLED.
The design of the 32GS95UE is kept simple, the screen edges are extremely thin. The monitor is compatible with both G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro. In terms of connections, LG has installed two HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4
If you prefer a wide screen, LG will soon be offering two new options with an OLED panel. The 34GS95QE has a screen diagonal of 34 inches, the 39GS95QE one of 39 inches. Both have a 21:9 aspect ratio with a curvature of 800R. The two devices also share the remaining specifications: UWQHD resolution (3440 × 1440 pixels), 240 hertz, 0.03 milliseconds response time.
Unlike the 32GS95UE, the two widescreen monitors do not have built-in speakers. Otherwise, they have the same design as their little brother. The connections are also the same. And just like the 32-inch model, LG doesn't say a word about the brightness.
Nothing is yet known about the prices and availability of the new LG monitors.
