Lenovo ThinkPad P16 - successor of the P15 and P17 workstations presented
Lenovo's 2022 ThinkPad P16 G1 workstation offers a lot of performance on paper and replaces the previous P15 and P17 models. Lenovo now relies on a large display in 16:10 format and a case made of an aluminum-magnesium alloy.
For the first time, the ThinkPad is not available in black, but only in metallic dark gray. Another "new" feature of the 2022 redesign is the 16:10 format. ThinkPads with this format were last offered in 2010, after which there was only 16:9. 15.6 and 17 inches are history - the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G1 takes the middle ground: 16 inches is the new standard. Thus, it is a bit bigger than the 15.6-inch ThinkPad P15, but a bit lighter than the 17-inch ThinkPad P17 with around 2.95 kilograms depending on the configuration.
Inside, there is a 12th Gen Intel Core i5, i7 or i9 from the HX series, which means up to 16 cores and 5 GHz clock. Configurations up to the Nvidia RTX A5500 with 16 GB VRAM are possible for the graphics. Complemented by four SoDIMM slots with up to 128 GB DDR5-4800 RAM and up to two M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSDs with a maximum of 8 TB, the P16 G1 doesn't have to hide from the competition. A 94 Whr battery provides for the mobile power supply.
The ports include two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, one HDMI 2.1, 3.5 mm jack and an SD Express 7.0 card reader. For wireless connectivity, 4G LTE (eSIM), Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 vPro are included. Furthermore, the laptop has a Full HD webcam and IR camera for face unlocking.
You can choose between four options for the display:
- OLED touch display with 3840 x 2400 pixels, 400 nits bright, 100% DCI-P3, HDR500 True Black, Dolby Vision
- IPS display with 3840 x 2400 pixels, 600 nits bright, 100% AdobeRGB, HDR400, Dolby Vision
- IPS display with 2560 x 1600 pixels, 400 nits bright, 100% sRGB
- IPS display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, 300 nits bright, 100% sRGB
The ThinkPad P16 Gen 1 is expected to be available in August. Lenovo lists a price of 1980 US dollars for the minimum configuration. We will offer it in our store.
