Together with its partners, online retailer Galaxus has laid the foundation stone for a new logistics centre in Neuenburg am Rhein. The first warehouse is due to be completed as early as summer 2025. We’re looking for 1,000 employees with a passion for creating an honest online shopping experience.

«This is the largest commercial development in Neuenburg since the 1960s,» said Jens Fondy-Langela, mayor of Neuenburg, last week at the laying of the foundation stone for the first of two new Galaxus warehouses. The expansion to Neuenburg also carries great importance for Digitec Galaxus and its subsidiary Galaxus Deutschland (Germany). With around 90,000 square metres of warehouse space and 1,000 employees, the site will be similar in size to the company’s largest logistics centre to date in Wohlen, Switzerland.

In front of around 50 guests, Michael Stolle, COO of Digitec Galaxus, explained why the move to Neuenburg was necessary: «As we’re growing rapidly in both Switzerland and Germany, we need more space. And because our projects in Rafz and Utzenstorf, Switzerland, will take a tad longer, our plan for Neuenburg has top priority.» Galaxus first announced its expansion to Neuenburg in February of this year. Michael Stolle: «Neuenburg is an ideal location for us. Working with our logistics partners, we can deliver quickly from there to Switzerland, as well as other parts of Germany and France. The products Galaxus sells usually arrive through northern European ports. Neuenburg is on the way for these products coming to Switzerland.»

Recruitment has started, big wave planned for summer 2025

In addition to visitors from Galaxus’s project partners and Mayor Fondy-Langela, representatives from the neighbourhood, the district and the media were also present. «The starting signal for the large logistics park in Neuenburg has been given» (linked article in German), read the headline run by the newspaper «Badische Zeitung» one day after the foundation stone was laid. The newspaper «Die Oberbadische» wrote, «The investor DFI-Real Estate and the Swiss online retailer laid the foundation stone for a new logistics centre on Wednesday.» (linked article in German). And the «L’Alsace» newspaper in Mulhouse, France, ran the headline «Galaxus lays its foundation stone in Neuenburg» (linked article in French).

Galaxus will not only be looking for staff in the small town of Neuenburg, but also in Mulhouse, France. Only a 20-minute drive away and with a population of over 100,000, it’s the closest major city. Located along the Rhine, Neuenburg is connected to the A5 highway, making it an easy commute to and from all of western South Baden, from Freiburg to Lörrach, Müllheim, Schopfheim and Bad Krozingen. The first job openings can already be found on galaxus.de and galaxus.fr. However, the big recruitment wave won’t begin until summer 2025. Galaxus welcomes all applicants who are interested in creating an honest online shopping experience.

A building permit has also been granted for the second warehouse that Galaxus would like to rent in Neuenburg, though species protection needs to be observed. The omens are favourable.

Galaxus continues to invest in European business and new German headquarters

Last month, the Migros Group, majority owner of Digitec Galaxus, approved the corresponding budget for four more years of Galaxus Deutschland. In spring, Migros put all of the Group’s strategic business areas to the test – including the European expansion of Galaxus. The analysis of the strategy showed that Galaxus’s targeted further development in the European market is promising.

At almost the same time, Galaxus Deutschland moved into a new office in Hamburg. With three times more space, a direct subway connection and rooftop terrace, Galaxus left the Hamburg district of Altona for the centrally located Hoheluft-Ost district on 20 September. The online retailer had outgrown its previous German headquarters on Altona’s Schützenstraße.
