Forget the Beautyblender, this sponge is a thousand times better!

Think of a make-up sponge. Is it pink? I almost thought so. The original Beautyblender is everywhere. But I’m here to tell you there are better products on the market already. And I’m a fan.

It’s a mystery to me why the original Beautyblender is still so popular today. The pink make-up sponge has been a staple of the beauty scene for years. There are now much better and, above all, more affordable alternatives. Such as those from the brand Real Techniques.

But before I explain why I consider the Real Techniques models to be among the best, I’d like to briefly share my experiences of the pink original. If you’re already wondering, it was pretty sobering.

The original is a blender

When I first washed out the newly purchased sponge properly, I noticed the water was running pink. And it didn’t want to stop. That’s not something I want anywhere near my face. I tested it anyway, of course. However, the wet tool has pores that are too coarse for my liking, which makes it difficult to apply my foundation evenly. I also find the shape anything but user-friendly. I get on well with the tapered end for detailed work around the eye. But, the rounded end for working in large areas isn’t great. I get the impression that it offers little control in terms of placement.

My recommendation

The Miracle Complexion Sponge from Real Techniques is completely different. The fine-pored surface leaves a flawless finish on the skin and the bevelled surface allows me to apply make-up precisely to larger areas such as the cheeks and forehead. If you like baking, you can also use it to apply loose powder. This sponge is available individually or in a double pack and costs less.

*Have you had similar experiences with the Beautyblender or did I somehow get one from the bad batch? As always, share your recommendations in the comments section!

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
