I never thought I’d miss the gym. But now I do.

Seriously? I’m working from home, writing an article and catch myself thinking about my gym. Wait, I’m not only thinking about it, I really miss it. Patrick, are you going crazy? Of course I don't miss the gym itself, but the training sessions in it. I just realised I enjoy working out at the gym. Note to self: remember this feeling next time you’re looking for a place in the crowded changing room and getting annoyed at the guy next to you whose sweaty clothes are taking up room for three. For the time being, however, it’s back to the roots. The roots of working out at home.

Bodyweight training

I used to hate gyms. Until two years ago, I swore by bodyweight workouts. Training with your own bodyweight is simple enough, but performing each exercise correctly is important. From push-ups and squats to jumping jacks, you can train your strength, endurance, mobility and coordination at home without needing weights. This type of training is easy on your joints. There are tons of online videos and apps with exercises and instructions. Half an hour of bodyweight training three times a week and a jogging session every now and then – that’s all you’ll need to stay in shape in the weeks and months to come. Speaking of running:

What about resistance bands, dumbbells and the such? They’re a welcome addition, but no must-have. Adding a gadget can help you switch things up and make sure your workout sessions don’t get boring. Here’s a selection of articles on fitness gadgets that are great for your home gym.
