Expensive and modular: Bang & Olufsen's Beosound A5
Audio manufacturer Bang & Olufsen presents new hi-fi speakers. The Beosound A5 are said to be particularly durable - but they also cost a lot.
They look like a wooden cool box. You can't cool your beer in them, but they do play music that probably doesn't sound bad. We're talking about the Beosound A5, the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speakers from Bang & Olufsen.
This is included
The speakers are equipped with a 135 millimetre woofer, two 50 millimetre full-range drivers and a 20 millimetre tweeter. These are connected to a dedicated 70 watt amplifier. According to the manufacturer, the speaker should be able to reproduce frequencies from 32 Hz to 23 kHz. The maximum volume is 101 decibels. The speakers can be used individually - B&O promises all-round sound - or as a stereo pair.
The following connections are available: USB-C, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast or Spotify Connect. A Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth 5.2 are also included. The speakers are controlled via the B&O app or via buttons on the top of the speakers. A smartphone can also be charged on the Qi charging pad. The speakers themselves have enough power for twelve hours of use. The previous model, the Beolit 20, only had eight hours.
The cooler Beosound A5 speakers weigh 3.7 kilos and are IP65 certified - meaning they are dust and splash-proof. But as you can probably guess for yourself: The dark real oak panelling on the outside is not waterproof. But at least the technology behind it is.
Replaceable longevity
According to B&O, the Beosound A5 is particularly durable as it has a modular design. Defective components can be replaced. Or even upgraded if necessary. The manufacturer promises corresponding updates. This means that the entire speaker does not have to be replaced in the event of a defect - B&O has been focussing on longer-lasting products for some time now
The speakers come in two different versions. The lighter version "Nordic Weave" costs 999 francs, the darker "Dark Oak" 1099 francs. The speakers are only sold via Bang & Olufsen stores and the manufacturer's online shop.
