Dolls, plugs and penis cages – the sex toy ranking-climbers of 2022

Sex toy sales are increasing from year to year, with Galaxus customers buying 25 per cent more adult toys in 2022 than they did the previous year. Anal toys joined vibrators and masturbators in the top 3 most popular intimate aids. In terms of sales growth, penis cages, sex dolls and penis plugs were the highest climbers of 2022.

Trigger warning: if sex toys aren’t your bag and you find articles about them offensive, please don’t read on. As for everyone else, I hope this proves to be entertaining reading.

In last year’s sex report, I put Galaxus’ Love + Play range under the microscope. In doing so, I revealed the hottest-selling toys that made their way into Swiss bedrooms between 2017 and 2021.

But which adult toys were shoppers clamouring for in 2022? Did the upward trend in sex toy sales continue? Did the return to normality after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted at the beginning of April 2022 influence our customers’ sex toy shopping habits? And which toys proved especially popular in which cantons?

Nothing to see here: a (b)anal ranking

Let’s start off with the top sellers. The world may be topsy-turvy, but not much has changed in the sex toy popularity rankings. Vibrators and masturbators are our customers’ favourite sex toys. In a debut for the derrière, anal toys were the movers and shakers of the top 5. For. the first time since Galaxus’ Love + Play range was launched, those playthings for the posterior snagged bronze in the sex toy sales rankings.

Incidentally, sales of all these products peaked in the final two months of the year. Year after year, sex toys are becoming more popular as Christmas gifts for partners – or for oneself.

Bear in mind that condoms and lubricants aren’t included in the chart above. That said, their success story is worth a brief mention. In fact, their sales are boosted every year. In 2022, Galaxus customers bought 34 per cent more condoms and 26 per cent more lube than in the year before.

Covid restrictions ease, putting a stopper in the demand for sex dolls

Vibrators, masturbators, anal toys, bondage sets and penis rings were front runners in terms of sales in 2022. The most significant sales growth, however, was achieved by other sex toys. Right up front are penis cages, with a proud 100 per cent increase in sales,

while penis sleeves on Galaxus achieved the second-highest sales growth rate. Interestingly, adult doll sales were at their lowest in April. This could potentially be related to the end of Covid-19 restrictions – fewer restrictions, less loneliness, lower doll demand.

A glance at the cantonal data reveals these three products to be the ranking-climbers of the sex toy range. On the map, you can see which sex toys have seen the greatest boost in sales in which cantons.

What’s your take on sex toys? A welcome injection of variety or completely overrated? Have you ever bought sex toys on Galaxus? Or is our range lacking your toy of choice? Have your say in the comment section.
