Catphone manufacturer goes bankrupt, all employees laid off
The Bullitt Group's robust smartphones have a large fan base. However, the English manufacturer has now had to give up and cease all business.
The Bullitt Group has made all its employees redundant. According to a media report, a rescue of the company, which had to file for insolvency three weeks ago, has failed. No official announcement has been made, but various employees are reporting this on Linkedin - and are naturally looking for new jobs.
This development is astonishing.
This development is astonishing because the Bullitt Group had big plans. The manufacturer made a name for itself with various licensed productions of outdoor mobiles. For example, the Cat series under the Caterpillar brand. Or Land Rover phones. Since 2021, Bullitt has also been designing and building the Motorola Defy models, which are also robust and well protected.
Satellite business to be saved
The English company also launched audio devices under the Ted Baker label, Kodak smartphones and headphones under the Ministry of Sound brand. Bullitt made headlines last year with Cat and Motorola mobiles that can make emergency calls and send messages via satellite.
The demise of Bullitt is a loss for the industry. The company was able to hold its own against the major manufacturers in the niche market of outdoor mobile phones for a long time and repeatedly surprised with innovative approaches such as thermal imaging cameras or almost indestructible mobile phone housings.
While Bullitt's hardware business is probably being buried for good, the innovations relating to the satellite connection of smartphones are to be transferred to a new company.
