Brilliant idea! It's so easy to conjure up a unique pendant from your lip gloss

Wear lip care as an accessory? Absolutely! Here you can find out why this beauty trend is brilliant and which four "works of art" came out of my DIY attempt.

Every time I rummage through the infinite depths of my bag with my arm (aka my armpit), I curse my lip gloss. I can do without the eternal game of hide and seek. And I will in future too, because: Lip care has been crowned an accessory. Whether clipped into a mobile phone case or as a pendant on a bag or key ring - what we wear on our lips is now being flaunted as a statement piece.

The best part: I don't even need to buy anything to get in on this trend, as this DIY video on Instagram proves. With a little creativity and skill, I can easily upgrade the products I already own into eye-catchers myself. The whole thing is not only practical, but also gives the small tube a personal touch. So, let's get to work on the beads and see what comes out of it.

It's that simple

I would like to "restyle" several products at once.

For this I need:

  • Lip care products or gloss from the tube
  • Carabiner hooks
  • Key rings
  • elastic cord
  • Wire
  • Miscellaneous fragments of old jewellery such as eyelets, connecting rings and flat head pins
  • Beads and pendants
  • Scissors
  • Pinning needle
  • Embroidery needle
  • Jewellery pliers

In a first step, I pierce the grooved weld seam at the end of the tube with a pin. I place the hole at the right-hand outer end between the grooves and leave the same amount of space above and below so that nothing tears. I then thread a hanging device through the resulting opening. This can be anything: a snap hook, a key ring or an (elasticated) cord, which I later decorate with beads. If the diameter of the hole is too small, I stretch the opening with a thick embroidery needle. I use jewellery pliers to attach metal hoops.

Now the fun really starts. I combine beads, chain fragments and pendants in all sorts of different ways and see which combinations I like best on which tube. The most practical way to do this is with flat head needles. Beads can be easily strung on them and later attached to the attached key ring or carabiner using connecting rings.

Here I have strung a few beads on a flathead needle and twisted the end of the wire into an eyelet.

Really cool: The jewellery on my tubes is modular. If I ever get tired of one of the designs, I can simply take it off, replace it or add to it.

My personal favourite: I spent ages tinkering with this cherry made from beads and wire.

My conclusion: I am absolutely thrilled. Crafting the jewellery not only challenged my creative streak, but also rekindled my enjoyment of the products. For me, jewellery is a form of appreciation. And now when I pull out my gloss - always ready to hand - a smile flits across my face.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
